Check out the meaningful new addition to the Dixon playground!

The Dixon PTO and a generous donor family, The Starrs, partnered to fund a new communication board, helping make our playground even more welcoming and inclusive for all students.

The board will give children another way to communicate with one another during play, making it easier to connect, make friends, and join in. It also helps students learn that people communicate in different ways and that every voice matters.

This project is especially meaningful because it honors the memory of Kathy Starr, who spent 17 years in the Elmbrook School District, many of them at Dixon, supporting students in special education. Kathy cared deeply about her students and their families. Even during her own health challenges, talking about her students at Dixon always brought a smile to her face. Donations made in Kathy's memory, together with Dixon PTO funds, made it possible to purchase this communication board.

We're so grateful to the Starr Family for their generosity, to our Dixon staff for helping select the communication board that best meets the needs of our students, and to the district's Grounds Crew for installing it.
